Five Questions to Ask Before Outsourcing Your SEO

Once you decide that you would like to outsource your search engine optimization responsibilities and hire a consultant, make sure you ask these five questions before you sign a contract.

1. Get names and contact information for at least 3 references and actually check them. This takes time, but it is a great way to get real feedback.

2. Demand a detailed action plan and don’t accept vague answers. By all means, don’t go with a company or person that promises the No.1 position for specific keywords. They are lying…

3. Ask what similar industries that have worked with, so ensure they will have a true understanding of your business and goals.

4. Ask what techniques they will use to achieve your goals. Listen for warning signs of “black hat” tactics and if they say they dedicate a lot of time to keyword meta tags they aren’t a true expert.

5. Ask them how often they will be communicating and what information will the updates contain. Ensure you are comfortable with the plan and they follow through with it.

Lastly, don’t lock yourself into a long-term contract until you are comfortable they can execute on your goals. Test things out for 30-60 days until you are confident there is a good fit.
